Grant's NW Guide Service
I have had my guides license for 13 years. I specialize in bait fishing whether it be eggs under a float, back bouncing, sidedrifting or herring fishing. My philosophy is to teach my clients how to fish so the boat works as a team to catch the most fish and have the most fun possible. Most people want to actively fish rather than sit watching a pole wiggle in a rod holder all day. I tell people when they first call me that my number one priority is not necessarily to catch them fish. (Stunned silence) While no one works harder to catch fish than Grant Scheele, the day MUST be about having fun. (Cheering) I fish for Winter Steelhead on the Oregon Coast from late November through March. I only sidedrift. When the water is right we sidedrift bobbers and bait/jigs. In the Spring we follow Spring Chinook starting in the Columbia in April, then the Willamette and Santiams in May, June and sometimes July if the run is strong. In the Summer we fish the ocean and river mouths of the Columbia, Siletz, Alsea, Nestucca and Nehalem for early returning Fall Chinook and Coho. In the Fall we chase large Fall Chinook in the same estuaries following the Chinook up the rivers after it rains. That season usually goes into December.
